Ten Years of Trade: The I heart Market Turns Ten

As December nears and everyone except the mosquitoes start winding down, pull yourself away from your air-conditioned ice palace to celebrate the I heart Market’s 10th birthday and festive season markets. Their 10th birthday celebrations will be taking place on the 1st of December and yes, there will be cake! There will also be raffle tickets on sale for a dreamy I heart Market hamper featuring items from your favourite traders, including food vouchers, clothing and much much more! All proceeds from the raffle will go towards HOLAH, a safe haven for orphaned and abandoned children. HOLAH was founded by Kim Brown and Leanne Lorrance, former traders at the I heart Market. They sold ice cream out of a purple trailer to fund their dream of starting HOLAH and raffle ticket sales will help take their dream even further. There will also be markets on the 8th, 15th and 22nd of December and the 5th of January, giving you plenty of opportunities to find one-of-a-kind, locally designed and made presents to secure your status as #1 Gift Giver this festive season. The markets will be at their usual spot on the lawns at Moses Mabhida Stadium from 9 AM to 2 PM (so save sleeping in for Sunday!) and there’ll be plenty of parking available.

In their 10 years, the I heart Market has come a long way from their humble beginnings on the pavement outside of the St Mary’s Church. While it has grown in size, their ethos of supporting local talent by providing them with a platform and bringing together an enthusiastic audience remains. As market founder, Anna Savage, says, “I heart Market has always been about supporting local creatives. Over the years, it’s been a treat to watch our traders launch their small businesses at the market and, with the right kind of audience, blossom and grow.” These blossoming businesses offer a top-notch selection, with everything from homeware to fashion to deli items and more! There are also wonderful kiddies items on offer so it’s a great holiday activity for the little ones. Then, once the shopping is done, you can venture into foodie paradise, grab some lunch and soak up the sunshine on the lawns.
